Banyan Tree Hotels Adds Two China Properties In Zhejiang

Angsana Zhoushan and Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang join Banyan’s China roster with onsens, hot springs, and local flavor leading the way.

A quick pulse check on Banyan Group: the company just opened two properties in Eastern China, both in Zhejiang Province, and notched its tally in China to 36 operating hotels. That would be a milestone year already, but Banyan is also lining up two more China openings before year-end and a November grand-opening celebration in Singapore to mark its 100th hotel worldwide. Busy, focused, and very on brand.

Why Zhejiang, Why Now

Zhejiang offers coastal scenery, island-hopping links, river valleys, and mountain drama, which suits Banyan’s nature-first playbook. The group’s latest duo plants flags in Zhoushan (think ferries to sacred Putuo Mountain and the Dongji Islands) and Wenzhou’s Nanxi River region (known for Yandang Mountain and tea culture). Both hotels lean into place, not just postcards.

A Coastal Retreat: Angsana Zhoushan

Angsana Zhoushan sits at the base of Wujian Mountain in Zhoushan’s Putuo District beside Wuling Wetland Park, an easy hop to ferry piers for Putuo and Dongji. The 222 rooms and villas mix natural textures with clean lines, and several come with private onsen pools or enclosed courtyards. Wellness is the headliner here, with Angsana Spa and an Angsana Onsen complex featuring 16 outdoor pools, plus an indoor pool, gym, and dedicated spaces for yoga and meditation.

Dining hits the expected Banyan notes: Chun Feng for refined Cantonese, Marketplace for international spreads, and Lingbo for wellness-leaning plates. Programming adds some local color with the “Angsana 101” craft series that can include fish-basket weaving and incense card design, and families with small kids will appreciate the Terra Kids Club.

A Mountain-Meets-River Escape: Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang

Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang keeps things intimate with 100 guestrooms and suites, including 20 family layouts in a dedicated parent-child building. The lobby features an origami sculpture inspired by the endangered scaly-sided merganser, and each guest receives a folded keepsake at check-in. Signature soak time happens in a hot-spring complex fed by on-site wells, with 26 indoor and outdoor pools that range from cave grottos to petal pools.

Outdoorsy types can hike along Yandang’s trails, pedal riverside paths, stargaze on the lawn, and join seasonal fruit-picking with the hotel’s team. When you are ready to refuel, Nan Xiang Restaurant, Shanyin Bar, and Star Bar lean into Zhejiang’s seasonal pantry and local tea traditions.

What’s Next For Banyan In China

Banyan says two more mainland debuts are slated by year-end: Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay and Dhawa Beihai Weizhou Island. The latter bills itself as the island’s only full-service hotel and brings a large room inventory and meetings space to the Beibu Gulf.

Meanwhile, the global spotlight swings to Singapore. Although the Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree opened in April 2025, Banyan plans a November grand-opening event to celebrate its 100th property milestone. Expect nature-centric programming to anchor the festivities.

Conclusion

Banyan’s China push is more than a pin-on-a-map exercise. Angsana Zhoushan doubles down on water, wellness, and coastal culture, while Homm Wenzhou Nanxijiang stitches families and hot springs into a river-and-mountain setting. Add two more China openings and a 100th-hotel celebration in Singapore, and you have a brand quietly stacking wins while staying true to place. It is smart growth that travelers will actually feel once they check in.
