Beetham Tower: IHG Introduces The Manchester Deansgate Hotel

IHG Rolls Into Beetham Tower: Meet The New Manchester Deansgate Hotel replaces the iconic Hilton at Beetham tower.

My former city’s first skyscraper is under new management. Manchester’s skyline just got an IHG makeover. That needle-in-the-sky Beetham Tower you’ve seen slicing through the clouds? It’s now sporting a shiny new name tag: The Manchester Deansgate Hotel. For those of us who remember when it flew the Hilton flag, the news of a rebrand might come as a bit of a curveball — but there’s more to this transformation than swapping signs.

From Hilton Hands to IHG’s House

IHG Hotels & Resorts has officially scooped up the iconic Beetham Tower property in Manchester’s city centre. With the rebrand comes a fresh take and a fresh face. Leading the charge is newly appointed General Manager, Konstantin Grimm — a familiar name if you’ve sipped anything sky-high at Cloud 23 over the years. Grimm previously helmed the bar back in the day, and now he’s back with the keys to the entire house.

For now, the hotel will trade under the name The Manchester Deansgate Hotel as it makes its way toward a full InterContinental conversion by 2027. When the transformation is complete, it will become IHG’s fifth InterContinental location in the UK and Ireland — a definite power move from the brand that’s already sitting pretty as the UK’s largest hotel group.

Same View, Same Vibe (For Now)

If your Manchester checklist includes grabbing a sunset cocktail at Cloud 23 or lingering over dinner at Podium Bar & Restaurant, you’re in luck. Both venues remain fully open and operational during the transition. The current staff is staying put and it’s business as usual — although you might spot the beginnings of a refresh soon as the hotel prepares for its big leap into InterContinental-level luxury.

Guests can still enjoy everything they’ve come to expect from the Beetham Tower days while looking forward to a serious glow-up in the relatively near future. While IHG hasn’t detailed the extent of the refurbishment, chances are it’ll bring the property’s 279 rooms and shared spaces into more luxurious territory while preserving that iconic Manchester skyline view.

Why This Move Matters

The UK and Ireland are already IHG stomping grounds, boasting 363 open hotels and another 33 in the pipeline. Of those, 27 already belong to the luxury and lifestyle club, which will bump to 28 with this addition. Reclaiming this landmark property in one of the UK’s most happening cities, IHG isn’t just settling in — it’s planting a luxury flag.

Grimm’s return signals IHG’s serious intent to blend world-class service with local charisma. For a city with a rich industrial history and cutting-edge scene, that blend of heritage and innovation might just be the perfect fit.

Conclusion

The Manchester Deansgate Hotel marks an exciting new chapter for Beetham Tower. While the full InterContinental transition won’t be wrapped up until 2027, it’s already well on its way. With a seasoned GM at the wheel and one of the world’s biggest hotel brands behind the scenes, Manchester just added another five-star reason to book a trip.

For now, guests can enjoy the best of both worlds — the personality and prime location of a city-famous hotel, with the backing of a luxury powerhouse. Keep an eye out, Manchester. This tower’s about to level up and I can’t wait to try it out on my next visit.
